I created a similar globe for my IRTC 'Sea' Entry
(http://www.irtc.org/ftp/pub/stills/2000-08-31/asl.jpg). The land surface is
an isosurface created by wrapping an imagemap around a sphere and was
initially demonstrated by Gilles Tran
(http://www.oyonale.com/ressources/english/sources09.htm). You can get the
source from http://www.irtc.org/ftp/pub/stills/2000-08-31/asl.zip (without
the land imagemap). There is also a Pov-Ray 3.5 version of the code
(including landmap) in povray.binaries.scene-files (under thread 'Balls
collection take 2 (24k)', posted by Nico on 21/10/03).
Hope it is useful!
Cheers,
Ian
